Have you ever noticed how much energy we spend trying to fit in?
We scroll through Instagram, see influencers, actors, and even random strangers who seem to have it all together, and think, "If only I looked like her, dressed like him, or had their confidence, I’d be unstoppable."
But let’s be real for a second—those are just flavours we’ve already had. And honestly? They don’t taste that good.
Even those influencers and celebrities often aren’t unique. They’re following some impossible beauty standard, carefully curated by the world of filters and Photoshop. It’s exhausting to keep up with something that’s not even real.
And here’s the kicker: while we’re busy trying to be someone else, the world is missing out on us. The real, one-of-a-kind person we were born to be.
From Ugly Duckling to Superhero-in-the-Making
I wasn’t exactly the “it” girl growing up. I was the awkward, weird kid who didn’t quite fit in. While other kids were trading friendship bracelets or debating the best boy band, I was diving into Greek mythology, ancient history, and spirituality. Not exactly bonding topics in a school cafeteria.
My obsession? Bionic Woman and The Six Million Dollar Man.
In case you’ve never seen these gems from the ‘70s, let me fill you in. Bionic Woman was about Jaime Sommers, a woman with superhuman abilities thanks to bionic implants, and The Six Million Dollar Man followed Steve Austin, a former astronaut rebuilt with bionic limbs after a crash. Both could run at lightning speed, jump incredible heights, and crush villains with robotic precision.
I was obsessed. I mimicked Jaime Sommers constantly, making those “bionic” sound effects as I pretended to sprint in slow motion. I almost believed I had superpowers of my own. (For the record, my dream power? Speaking every language on the planet and being fantastic at every sport—because apart from dancing, I’ve never been the athletic type. Let’s just say I wasn’t the first pick for dodgeball.)
The Power of Being You
Fast-forward to now. You know when my husband finds me most attractive? It’s not when I’m trying to hide the body parts I’m self-conscious about or when I’m downplaying my abilities. It’s when I’m just being myself. Quirks, imperfections, nerdy glasses on, weird dance moves—all of it.
That’s the thing: we’re at our best when we embrace who we are.
Think about some of the most iconic figures in history. Charlie Chaplin became a legend not by copying anyone but by leaning into his own unique style of humour. When he first started, a director of pictures insisted on him imitating a popular German comedian of that day—it didn't work. Chaplin wasn’t conventionally handsome or particularly trendy, but he understood the value of being himself.
Oprah Winfrey’s authenticity turned her into a household name. Even Lady Gaga’s rise to fame was fuelled by her unapologetic individuality.
You Are Unique in All of Time
Here’s a mind-blowing fact: Since the beginning of time, there has never been anyone exactly like you.
And throughout the ages, there never will be. You are a once-in-all-of-history phenomenon.
So why would you waste that trying to be a knockoff version of someone else?
Science backs this up, too. Psychologist Carl Rogers, the father of humanistic psychology, emphasized that self-acceptance and authenticity are key to living a fulfilling life. When we align with who we truly are, we’re happier, more confident, and more successful.
Your Inner Superhero Awaits
This is what I call your "inner superhero." It’s your strengths, abilities, quirks, and even your so-called weaknesses that make you, you.
Superheroes struggle, too. They doubt themselves, face failures, and question their purpose. But what sets them apart is their willingness to show up, embrace their unique gifts, and get the job done.
If you’re not quite sure who your inner superhero is yet, that’s okay. Start by observing yourself.
- What lights you up?
- What are you naturally good at?
- What do your loved ones admire about you?
Begin studying yourself the way you would a favourite character in a movie. And remember, self-discovery is a process—not a sprint.
Release Your Inner Superhero
Here’s the good news: You don’t have to go it alone.
I’m here to be your cheerleader and empowerment coach, helping you uncover and release that superhero version of yourself. I’m also in the midst of creating something magical and transformational—stay tuned for all the details on Instagram and in my newsletter. It’s going to change everything.
So, stop trying to fit in.
Stop trying to be someone else.
The world needs you. And trust me, lovely, you’re more than enough.
With love and empowerment,
Nadine xxx
